Dear Fellow Rappers,
![]() A lot of people say "don't judge a book by its cover"and class 5/6H of Wollondilly Public School think it's absolutely true.
"The Ugly Duckling" is an extremely powerful story that has many underlying messages that are relevant today.
"The Ugly Duckling" was viewed by his mother, brothers and sister as ugly. They treated him poorly because he didn't look like them. People today are very concerned with their appearance and what they wear. We should treat all people as equals, and respect people who look different to us, that have different opinions, ideas and values from us.
"The Ugly Duckling" was also bullied. Bullies are everywhere in society today. People who are victems of bullying have low self esteem and often don't reach their full potential. Many of us have been teased and we don't like how it affects us, so we must always consider the feelings of others. Bullies are not cool.
Peer group pressure plays a huge part in some peoples lives. Some children our age feel they will not be accepted and valued unless they do what their so called "friends" expect of them, or have the newest and coolest games, and clothes.
"The Ugly Duckling" could also be about racism. The duckling stood out because of his appearance. Today some cultural groups are made to feel uncomfortable in our society because people do not understand their religious beliefs and customs.
It is up to our generation to be more accepting of others.
It's up to us to make sure people don't feel like the "Ugly Duckling."
Your Sincerely 5/6H
