G'day all wizards, warlocks and muggles!
We are S3M at Penrith Public School on the outskirts of Sydney. We are
very excited about doing our first book rap. Our classes are divided into
stage groups and we are in Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6). We have more girls
than boys in our class. Most of us have seen the "Harry Potter" movies but
not many of us have read the books. Our teacher, Mr McLean, has started
reading "The Chamber of Secrets" and we were laughing at J.K. Rowling's
descriptions of the Dursleys.
Penrith PS is a multicultural school with about 350 students. In our
community we have families from all over the world. Penrith students follow
four core values: learning, co-operation, respect and environment.
This year, we have a new environment called the Passive Playground
where students can play together in a safe and quiet area. Some of us in
Stage 3 volunteered to be Passive Playground Supervisors. We wear
special badges so the younger students know who the supervisors are.
Recently we had a Cake Day to raise money for our Year 6 Farewell. Two
special invited guests came: Penrith Panthers NFL players, Luke Rooney
and Steven Turner. Luke was School Captain of Penrith PS in 1995 and he
talked to us about his memories of being a student at our school. Luke and
Steven signed autographs for all the students.
Recently, we have been learning about different ways of thinking. Six
coloured Thinking Hats help us to ask clever questions about our work. We
also began Peer Support where we learn how to be co-operative leaders.
We like working in small groups with children from each grade K-6. We are
making lots of new friends.
We hope to make more new friends through this book rap.
Rap ya later!
