immigrantc_rap Our 3 Questions - NSIT ESL

Here are our three questions:

QUESTION ONE
We found the 'Chronic Ward' the most difficult poem to understand. Could
you explain the following:

-'At the state's expense/Or our mercy's appeasement' (Does the 'mercy
appeasement' refer to the mental hospitals run by the Catholic Church?)
- The last two lines.
-Why the poem was included in our set poems? The subject matter is very
different to the other poems. We can see a connection with the other poems
in the way it deals with the experience and feelings of small marginalised
groups but should we be aware of anything else?

QUESTION TWO
It is obvious the writing style and tone of 'Kornelia Woloszczuck' is very
different from 'Feliks Skrzynecki'. The description of Kornelia is quite
supernatural and at times we get a negative image of her.
How would you portray her character and what made you choose this writing
style to describe her?

QUESTION THREE
It seems poetry is open to many interpretations. Does this bother you and
how does a composer invite the responder to consider his (the composer's)
point of view?

Thanks, NSIT ESL
