indijreaders04_rap From Helen Empacher for Glenroi rappers

Hello again Rappers!

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS:

I am a class teacher and have been teaching since 1992. I am currently having a break while I look after my children until they go to school but I have every intention of returning to teaching one day soon.

The children who wrote the book with me were students at my last school. We only had 3 aboriginal children at our school (out of 400) and I wanted to do something special with them so that they could see how clever they were. Bianca was in Year 6. Her cousin Tu was in Year 4 and Nioka was the youngest. She was in Year 1. We all loved writing the book together. We had lots of laughs!

How clever of you to notice that the boomerang on the back of the book is different to the other books. Bronwyn Bancroft, the illustrator, was so excited about why I was writing the book that she decided to sneak a little surprise into this book by making it slightly different to the others. You found her surprise! WELL DONE! Boy they make kids smart at Glenroi!

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to ask me some questions. I have really enjoyed 'talking' with you. Keep up the good work.

Helen
