Dear Rappers,
 
We talked about famous Australians and made a list of people we could make a time line about.  We voted to decide which person we would tell you about.  Here is our time line for Ian James Thorpe.
 

Ian James Thorpe

(Thorpey or Thorpedo)

 

1982      Born 13th October (son to Ken and Margaret, younger brother to Christina).

1990        Began competitive swimming.

1994              Joined coach Doug Frost to pursue swimming career.

1995              Went to National Junior Championships and won every event up to and including the 200 metres.

1996              Repeated the previous years process breaking several national and world records.

1997              Gained selection in the Pan Pacific Championships, Japan and won 2 silver medals. Youngest male swimmer ever to represent Australia.

1998              World Championships in Perth adding 2 gold to his growing tally.  Youngest male world champion.  First Commonwealth Games – 4 gold.

1999              Pan Pacific Championships where he broke 4 world records.

2000              Sydney Olympic games – 3 gold and 2 silver.  Carried Australian flag at closing ceremony.  Founded his own trust, “Ian Thorpe’s foundation for youth.

2001              World Championships – 6 gold and 4 new world records.

2002              Commonwealth games, England – won most events.  Pan Pacific Games – 5 gold, 1 silver.  New coach Tracey Menzies.

2003              FINA world swimming championships – 3 gold.

2004              Athens Olympic Games – 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
