These answers are from Marg, Dylan's friend. Marg was with Dylan and
his Dada and his Nan at the zoo and they have
talked for hours and hours since that day, about that special day at the zoo.
I really enjoyed reading your book. I could
see from the photographs that you were learning a lot from the keepers at the
zoo and from watching the animals. Could you tell us if you also learned a lot
from being so close to animals like Wooly?
There is a very special secret thing that Dylan noticed about Wooly. When
he looked at Wooly's skin very closely, he could see lots of colours on Wooly's
scales. Dylan's Nan said that because of all
the rainbow colours, Wooly must be related the the Rainbow Serpent. What do you
think?
What sort of things did you find out when
you could hear them and smell them and touch them and watch them up close?
Dylan found out that Wooly had a blue tongue and Wooly's minder told
Dylan that Wooly smells with his tongue
You looked as if you were talking to some
of the animals. Were you? What did you say to them? Did they make any noises
(maybe they were talking to you!)?
Yes Dylan talked to Rudolph (the echidna) and he spoke (firmly) to
Dubbo the Emu especially when Dubbo wanted to eat all of Dylan's grapes and
then started to eat our camera. I think he talked to Wooly too but he spoke
very quietly so it must have been a secret just for Wooly.
How many different things did you ride on
when you and Nan and Dad were travelling to
the zoo and when you were in the zoo? What was your favourite ride?
Dylan and his Nan and his Dad came
from their house to Circular Quay in a taxi. Then we all got the ferry across
to the zoo. We all then went up to the top of the zoo in the cable car. When
the day was over we all came back down to the wharf in the cable car, back to
the city on the ferry, then Dylan and his Dad and his Nan got a bus back home
to Glebe.
