Dear Colleagues
After forwarding information about the
loss of students, teachers and schools in Sumatra,
several teachers have contacted me to ask whether there is a relief fund specifically
for schools in the affected areas.
I spoke to John Davenport at the
Indonesian Embassy in Canberra
and you can read his response below. It may be of interest to those of you who
want to organise fundraising activities.

In response to you phone call the administration at the
Embassy has considered your suggestion and is very supportive and appreciative
of the idea.
If schools are willing to raise funds for schools/students
in Sumatra they should send a cheque made out
to the Embassy of Indonesia. They should address their letter as follows.
Education Donations
C/- Mr W Yudhi
Education and Culture Attaché
Mr Yudhi has guaranteed that the funds the schools raise
will be sent to the Education Department in Jakarta
and used to assist the rebuilding and re-equipping of schools in Sumatra that were destroyed or damaged by the tsunami.
The funds will also be used to equip the temporary tent schools that are being
established.
Please contact me if we can supply more details to teachers.
