A reminder to those in the Canberra area, that there will be a traditional wayang kulit (Indonesian shadow puppet) performance of the Ramayana at 10.00am and 1.00pm each day for schools from Monday 14th to Friday 18th February. The performances are at the historic Albert Hall in Commonwealth Avenue and cost $5 per student. The dalang  (puppeteer) is Javanese are there is a full gamelan orchestra. Indonesian snacks will be on sale. For details phone the Indonesian Embassy on (02) 6250 8628. Individuals may attend and buy tickets at the door for each perfromance.

 

On Friday 18th February there is a longer two hour Ramayana performance. Indonesian food will be for sale from 6.00pm and the performance starts at 7.00pm. There will be Indonesian souvenirs for sale and the Asia Bookroom will sell books on Indonesia. This is a rare opportunity to see a genuine wayang kulit performance with a highly trained dalang and a full gamelan orchestra. Tickets are $15 or $10 concession. For tickets please phone the Indonesian Embassy on (02) 6250 8623 or buy tickets at the door from 5.30pm on Friday 18th February. Thanks.
