This is 7EB's response to Rap Point 1 from Hay War Memorial School
a) Our definition of ‘imagination’ is ‘the action of creating mental
pictures and the ability to see things differently; to let your mind run
free; turning an object to the way you want it to look’.
b) Luke’s classmates do not see the world as being bright and colourful.
They see it as dull and boring. They feel they can’t explore the colours
as Luke does and they feel they cannot relate to him and his creativity
because they are scared of Mr Barraclough.
His teacher, Mr Barraclough, is straightforward, dull, basic, boring, strict
and pessimistic. Mr Barraclough looks at things without life; he sees them
in black and white. He likes to be in control: he overshadows what the boys
are doing.
Luke’s way of looking at the world is colourful, original, creative and
bizarre. He is happy in his own world. As an individual he likes to explore
colours and create abstract designs. His way of looking at the world is
weird and wild.
c) Mr Barraclough was lost for words when he saw Luke’s abstract art. He
went ballistic. Mr Barraclough thinks that all art work should be the same
or `normal` or straight forward. Mr Barraclough thinks that there must be
something wrong with Luke if he paints like that. Mr Barraclough facial
expressions, the way he broke Luke’s brushes and the dark, cross hatching
of the shadows shows his anger, frustration and disgust.
