lukes_way_of_looking_rap Hay Way Memorial High School

We have been asked what a war memorial high school is and how it is
different to other high school.

After the First World War when lots of towns and cities were building war
memorials to honour those who served in the war, many memorials were erected
in parks and main streets.
The community of Hay decided that instead of building a memorial like this
that they would build a high school.
The town raised half of the money and the Department of Education provided
the rest.
The school was opened on Anzac Day, 1923.
The main building is the town's war memorial and the town's Anzac day
commemorations are held there each year in the gardens at the front of the
school. There are marble plaques on the front of the building to honour
those who died during WWI and inside are honour boards for all the other
wars. We also have a war museum in the main building.
