lukes_way_of_looking_rap Rap Point 2

Hi fellow Rappers
What wonderful responses to our Rap Point 1 questions! It's been so
rewarding, reading your very perceptive views of "imagination" and the
characters' differing views of the world.

Don't worry if you still haven't posted your response - it's still not too
late. Just send your reply whenever you can - we'd love you to share your
ideas and feelings with the rest of your "state wide peers"!

Some exciting news - illustrator Matt Ottley is now online with us and is
most keen to answer any questions which you may have about the book and his
work. So get thinking and post some stimulating questions! Please limit your
queries to 2 or 3 per school and post them to the usual Rap address:

lukes_way_of_looking_rap@list.schools.nsw.edu.au

Now for those of us who are ready to tackle Rap Point 2, here it is:

Throughout “Luke’s Way Of Looking” the illustrator, Matt Ottley, has used
various symbols and metaphors to enhance the text.

(a)For example, images of birds are frequently used. What do you think the
birds might represent in the various illustrations?

Choose two or three bird motifs, and for each image write a paragraph about
what you think it represents. Send your response to the Rap.

(b)Choose a different image, which your class enjoyed. What makes it
powerful and effective? Refer to techniques employed by Matt Ottley.

Share your ideas and feelings with other Rappers. In your response describe
how you chose this particular image and why you think it is effective.

I know we'll all be looking forward to reading your responses - especially
Matt. Keep up the great work and happy Rapping!
