lukes_way_of_looking_rap Rap point 2

Hello fellow book rappers,

a) We think that the birds represent FREEDOM...in this case, freedom to be
creative.

On pgs. 19/20 ('Just when Luke felt that he could burst....), there is a
shadow of a bird. We think this means Luke is feeling 'free as a bird' and
could fly away from anyone who might want to stop his creativity.

On pgs. 5/6 there is a black and white bird on the outside of Luke's school.
The only colour is in Luke's painting. The bird is outside, looking in,
which might mean that freedom to be creative is not within the school.

b) We really loved the pages with Luke in the watermellon (pgs. 27/28) The
fact that the watermellon is 'bursting' is a very powerful image, suggesting
that Luke is bursting into creativity. Also, the size of the watermellon
compared to Luke seems to say his creativity is even bigger than Luke is.

Bye for now- SALTANA.K St. Xavier's Gunnedah
