Howdy Rappers,
Today 5T discussed Rap Point 2. We looked through Luke’s Way Of Looking and
talked about what the bird’s represent in the various illustrations. Then we
had a vote to pick our 2 favourite pictures.
The first page we chose starts with “Just when Luke felt…”
On this page you can see that Luke’s freedom. Luke finally feels free
because he has found a place where he is at home. At school Luke felt sad
and lonely. Now that he has discovered a place where people look at things
the same way he does, he is happy.
The second page we chose starts with : “Even the school looked more
exciting…”
The bird on this page is symbolic of Luke’s world has come alive.
The school is now alive because the bird has become part of it. The bird’s
tail extends through the length if the building and parts of the clock
tower. The bird’s image is very bright and big and expresses Luke’s new
found self-confidence and enlarged imagination.
2B
Working in small groups we chose a favourite illustration and listed key
words describing our feelings and how it was effective. We then shared our
options with the class and took a vote. The “finalst” illustrations were the
watermelon image (“ Luke reached for his brush…”) and a scene in the art
gallery ( “ Luke wondered what Mr. B ….”) The watermelon spread was the
winner (16-10)
Matt Ottley has made this picture 3 dimensional and it looks as though the
pieces of watermelon are flying out at you. Inside, the watermelon is
bursting with bright colours, which represent Luke’s expanding imagination.
These colours are similar to the colours used when Luke bursts out of the
art gallery, out into the sunshine. Matt has drawn Luke stepping into the
watermelon, which symbolizes Luke’s happiness and excitement with his
imagination.
Catch ya later. The 5T rappers from Marayong P.S..
