lukes_way_of_looking_rap Rap Point 2 from 5B Marayong

Hi Rappers,

This is 5B at Marayong Public School’s response to Rap Point 2:

RAP POINT 2A
Write a paragraph about what you think 2 of your chosen bird motifs
represent.
BIRD MOTIF 1: “For the first time in his life, Luke felt at home.”
We are referring to the abstract portrait hanging in the art gallery by
Clarra Bough which is an anagram for Barraclough. We think the little pale
blue creature in the artwork is a bird and the bird is being held by Mr
Barraclough. We think this abstract picture of Mr.Barraclough might show how
Luke views his teacher. We also think the size of the two characters is
important- Mr Barraclough is huge – and Luke is tiny. That is how Mr
Barraclough makes Luke feel- tiny, worthless, and insignificant. We also
noticed that the bird in the artwork has no colour. It is as if Mr
Barraclough takes all the colour- enjoyment of the world from Luke.

BIRD MOTIF 2 “Luke wondered what Mr Barraclough would say if he were here.”
We are referring to the artwork of the bird-man standing on the egg. We
think it is significant that this bird is adding colour to the world. We
also think this bird might be adding colour to Luke as on the previous page
Luke is black and white and on the following page Luke is soiled colour. The
bird is also making one side of the world abstract in contrast to the other
side that is straight lines. We think the straight lined, dull side of the
painting is where Mr Barraclough is while the colourful abstract side is
where Luke would like to be.

RAP POINT 2B
Class 5B chose the illustration of the giant watermelon for rap point 2B.We
think this image is effective firstly because it takes up the whole page.
Matt Ottley has given this picture texture which makes the watermelon appear
alive as Luke is stepping into it.We can feel Luke’s excitement as he is
breaking into the fruit. He is finally experiencing freedom. We believe the
seeds bursting out of the watermelon are similar to that of fireworks; but
also imply that the seeds are, like Luke, free to grow now.
