matthewflinders_rap Launch of Rap Point 2. Coordinator message

Hello again Flinders folk,

This week we’ve received responses to Rap Point 1 from
the Beauty Point brigade and the Five Dock zoomers.
Five Dock are sailing along at a great rate with their
poems and news of a grand construction of “Tom Thumb”.
What a great way to present your timeline and visually
represent your learning. If you have a digital camera,
take lots of photos so we can also see how your boat
is developing and follow as you continue to build up
your timeline. Attach your digital photos to your next
emails. Let’s have everyone taking some photos of all
of you at work so we can have a giant photo album of
memories.

The BBPS rappers have posted us some questions. Can
anyone investigate the answers? Let us know how you’re
going. We’re looking forward to receiving emails from
the other groups with their questions and search
strategies.

If any groups feel a little behind schedule, don’t
despair, just keep on trying at a steady pace and
attempt those activities that you can fit in. Just
imagine how Flinders must have felt sometimes when
everything wasn’t running to plan – but he didn’t give
up!

It’s now time to launch Rap Point 2. Who was Matthew
Flinders?

This week everyone should be exploring Flinders’ life
and recording all the facts about his life in
preparation for a biography. As you are discovering
facts about him start thinking about the good and not
so good parts of Flinders’ character. Later you will
be asked to make a decision as to whether Flinders was
more friendly or more fiery.

Whilst working on your biography/timeline and
gathering information from all the sources to help you
along, take some time to reflect on which source of
information you found most helpful. Was it the online
exhibition at the State Library? Record your ideas and
post your response to the rap as Rap Point 2A.

The second part of the Rap quest asked you to describe
which method of presentation for your
biography/timeline that you found was the most
effective. Post that email to the list. Then everyone
gets to find out about the great, creative ways that
each group has presented their findings.

There are lots of ways to present your biography as
either a timeline or prose. If you are great with
computers, have you considered a PowerPoint
presentation, a KidPix slide show, a report in a word
processing document or even a web page? Show off your
efforts to us by digital photos, email attachments of
scanned work or computer files.

The rap questions are:

2a What did you find were the best source/s of
information for your biographies? Why?

2b Which method of presentation was the most effective
way for YOU to communicate information about Matthew
Finder’s life? Why?

Post your responses to these questions to the rap at
matthewflinders_rap@list.schools.nsw.edu.au
