Hello everyone,
Firstly, thanks to the Five Dock zoomers for alerting
us to the article in The Australian newspaper. You are
now all investigative newshounds on the scent for more
information. Congratulations and well done!
This term has certainly been very busy and challenging
for you all. As we move towards the end of school for
the term and towards a well deserved break for all of
you hardworking Flinders’ rappers, it’s time to just
stop and reflect over what you have discovered from
this rap. I know that I have discovered lots of new
information but also learnt to use the Internet more
productively and to reflect on how Flinders’ life and
times are so different to mine. I hope everyone has
benefited from this term’s quest for knowledge on
Matthew Flinders and the time in which he lived and
this rap has been a worthwhile experience..
To finish up, I hope everyone will take the time to
discuss any interesting conclusions they have drawn
from this study of the life and times of Matthew
Flinders.
To do this, firstly put yourself in Matthew Flinders’
place. What would you do the same? What would you
change? What good things did he achieve? How was
Matthew Flinders different from the young adults of
today? How are you like similar to, and different
from, him?
Discuss the difficulties of making judgements about
differing interpretations of historical events. Relate
this to how current historical events and famous
figures will be remembered in 200 years time. Consider
what type of heirlooms from today’s world would be
important sources of information for generations to
come. Reflect on why the State Library set up this
exhibition.
What have you learnt from participating in this rap?
What did you find interesting? What did you find
challenging? What new skills have you gained? Gain a
