Hi Rappers!

A big welcome to the two new schools who've just joined, Kempsey High and
Arthur Phillip - the more the merrier!

The focus this week is one how well Harper Lee creates a sense of place.
Remember she was writing the novel in 1960, but set it 30 years before.
That's like writing a novel now but setting it back in 1970.

Those of you who've loved in a country town might like to comment on how
effective she is in creating town life. Think about the characters she
creates, and whether yopu know similar people. The ABC is playing a program
called 'Marking Time', which is also set in a country town and deals with
the theme of Prejudice. If you're able to see it you may find some points of
contact in the two stories - but be warned, it is a pretty up-front tale,
with strong language and some violence. You may need to check if it's
suitable.

Good luck to everyone doing the School Certificate - hope this rap is of
some help too.

Mr Nethercote
