mockingbird_rap welcome back & Rap Point 2

Hi Rappers!

Welcome back to the To Kill a Mockingbird novel and film rap.

Now that School Certificate was easy, wasn’t it.

Welcome back aboard for what still promises to be a pretty challenging four
weeks. (You can still send your responses to Rap Point 1 because we are only
now posting Rap Point 2 and should be posting Rap Point 3 next week.)

Hi to the Way Out Westies and the students from Kempsey High! Check out the
rap submitted by the Coomie rappers. We are glad you were able to find great
joy in the novel folks.

Here are a few reminders before we move on to this week’s Rap Point 2.

Remember to send your Introductory Message and all future To Kill a
Mockingbird novel and film rap student messages to this email address:
mockingbird_rap@list.schools.nsw.edu.au

Please send only one message from your school class. (Short messages are
best!). Put as your subject: " Rap Point 1 (or 2 or 3) ".

All messages sent to this students' list will automatically have the prefix
"Mockingbird rap" in the subject line for easy identification; there is no
need for you to type this.

Please send only one message on behalf of your class / group. After reading
other schools' introductory messages and responses, you may wish to respond
to particular groups as well as to the Rap itself.

Perhaps during this past week, you have refreshed your understanding of the
book and the film while recovering from the exams.

Now, to get the ball rolling again here is your Rap Point 2:

Rap point 2
English Stage 5 programming and planning
Term 4, Week 6 (commencing 17 November 2003)
Focus question
How effectively does Harper Lee create a sense of time and place in the
novel?
The novel is set in a time period that is more than twenty years before it
was actually written. What techniques does Lee use to create the impression
of a real place at a real time? Don’t forget that the narrator, Scout, would
have been in her mid-twenties as she is writing the story. Does Lee create a
believable child’s voice?

We look forward to reading your introductions, your responses to this rap
point and to learning more about your schools (as always).

Happy rapping!

Mr Bowie, The Big Rapper.
