Hi Fellow Rappers!
Defining hero as - "a person with noble qualities who battles for what they think is correct against incredible odds", and 'Prejudice' as - "a fear or preconcieved opinion or bias against the unknown"...
We believe that Atticus is a hero.
We don't believe a hero necessarily has to win in whatever he/she is fighting for, as it is the fighting, the trying and believing that counts to make them heroic.
While Atticus is a brave person, his possession of many moral values, physical and personal courage, and integrity also makes him heroic. There is a big difference between physically brave people and heroes. Brave people don't always stand up for what they believe, only on occassion. For example, did Judge Taylor actually say what he thought in court? Or stop a man from being convicted as a result of the country's bias against Negroes? He may be brave on some occasions but not so here.
Although Atticus' court case might not have produced the result he wished, it doesn't mean all of his beliefs and strategies failed. All the people closely associated with him had some of his values rubbed off onto them and by the end of the book all have gone through some sort of growth being physical, mental, emotional or otherwise.
Atticus never actually told people how to behave, how to think, or how to act, he showed them, and that is why we think he is a hero.
Looking forward to hearing what everyone else thinks.
