Dear 3M at Whalan Public School,
Thankyou for your letter. I must
admit I'm feeling like a queen with all of this lovely attention. Let me
try and answer your questions.
How old am I? Next
August I'll be 78, which is a jolly good age to be. I'm also chuffed that I'm
still so fit - I practice yoga every day.
My husband? Dearest
Plato - that was his name passed away 6 years ago after struggling with a long
illness. He was a gorgeous man bless him.
Where do I live? I live
in a town - its quite a big town - in the far north of the state called
Imaginbury. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful towns in the country. A
lot of people like to visit it, but many have trouble staying here because the
climate is too different from where they come from. I love living here (I must
say, Matt Ottley did a pretty good interpretation of my flat).
Did I really go on the
adventure in the book? Yes of course - things like that happen in this
town. To answer some of your other questions; yes the water was cold, but
wonderfully refreshing, and no, Sox was not laughing at me, but with me. We felt
so free.
How long have I been
entering the flower show? I think about twenty years now. The flowers that
I won with had never been known to science before so they had no names. I have
called them the family of Creativicus Beautius flowers.
What did I win? I won a
years subscription to 'The Good Gardener's Guide to Savage and Carnivorous
Plants', but more importantly I won back my self esteem. See for me winning the
competition was kind of symbolic of me winning in my life - that it was OK for
me to be a bit different from everyone else, and still feel OK about
myself.
I must go and feed Sox. Its been
such fun writing to you.
Mrs Millie.
