Dear 3C at Whalan Public School,
Thankyou for your lovely
comments about my paintings. I'm glad you like my flower paintings. You should
see Sox's paintings(Socrates - I call him Sox for short) . Since that little
adventure, which Matt recorded in the book, Sox has really taken to painting.
They are mostly huge completely abstract works which he does with his paws -
very messy - and as we can't speak to each other (me not being a cat), I can
only guess at what they mean. I'm afraid I was a little embarrassed at Matt
showing some of my paintings in the illustrations in the book, but do you know I
have had such a lot of nice feedback just like yours about
them.
Socrates had a bad case of
hayfever after our adventure, but he seems to be OK now, although he never gets
too near those big pitcher plants now growing just outside the window,
which is OK because I was always worried about him falling off the
ledge.
Sox and I had a FANTASTIC time
in the magical tree. Yes, I did kind of get the idea to climb the vine from the
story of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Sox is nine years old. He came
into my life three years before my beloved Mr Millie passed away.
As for Mrs Compost, I actually
feel a bit sorry for her. I'm ashamed to say that I did rub it in a bit when I
won the flower show that year. I let her know how pathetic I thought her entry
was, which was not very nice of me. She and I used to be friends but I think
when her husband left her she became very insecure and this showed in her
becoming quite bossy. I have been sending her a Christmas card each year. I'm
sure we will be friends again soon. I think that perhaps she is secretly a
little ashamed of her behaviour.
I'm rattling on here, so perhaps
I had better sign off. Thanks again for your letter
Mrs Millie
PS I do now have a bigger watering can - it's on
weels.
