mrs_millies_painting_rap To 3M Whalan from Matt

Hi 3M Whalan Rappers,

You'd like to know how  I came up with the idea for my story about Mrs Millie.

Well, that's kind of a long story,  Until I was twelve years old I lived in New Guinea, on the outskirts of a town called Mount Hagen in the Western Highlands Province. I liked to spend most of my time alone, and much of that up in trees. There were some trees near our house that had such a thick canopy of vines and creepers growing over them that I could make the most amazing cubby houses in them (this was about twenty metres above the ground). I made little balconies and passage-ways, all modelled out of the creepers. Ever since then I've wanted to make a story about someone who travelled to the top of a tree that had such a thick canopy they could walk on it.

Did I know someone called Mrs Millie

No, but an old lady seemed the perfect candidate for the character in this story. To be honest I can't even remember where the name Millie came from, just that I liked it.

Do I like writing stories for children

Yes, I'm passionate about stories for children. I think that good children's literature is also for adults. Some adults think that its not cool to like children's books which I think is silly.

 Do I have any children?

Over the course of a year I often have many children, but none of them is human. See if you can work that one out?

Matt
