mrs_millies_painting_rap To 4S Whalan PS from Matt

Hi 4S Whalan,

What was the first book I ever wrote and how many books have I written and illustrated?

The first book I wrote was called Albert's Rainy Day, and that was fourteen years ago. It is about a boy who invents things with his bed one rainy day.

What age did you start writing and illustrating books?

I had my first illustrations published in an activity book about venomous wildlife when I was eighteen years old.

How did I become a talented artist/ illustrator?

Thankyou for calling me talented. I think I came to love writing and illustrating because when I was a child in New Guinea there was not the easy access to books that most of us know today, and my mum used to help me make little books out of recycled paper, which I then wrote in and illustrated. I think my love of writing and drawing came from then. I don't actually believe in talent as being something special that we are born with. I feel that the only ingredient needed to become talented is a very strong desire to do something. Eventually you become good at that thing.

Will I be writing any more books about Mrs Millie?

I'd love to but there is nothing planned yet for dear old Mrs M.

Thanks for your questions

Matt
