We looked at the use of camera movements. We focused on the opening scene ‘Max Hammer’s Reality’ and the way panning was used to create a sensation of the spinning world as each character gave their opinion on Max Hammer. This combined with a zoom onto the character as they spoke made us, the audience, focus on what they were saying about Max Hammer.
This is actually hard to imagine as a series of shots – so is the piece shot as the character speaks and the camera does pan or is this actually using SFX?
When we see the pan shot in the Chicken Coop scene it shows the setting – but are we actually seeing a mall or a set?
If it is a mall, how do you take over a mall for shooting? Or a school?
We also enjoyed the laugh when the camera pans from the expensive homes to Saskia’sactual home – do you just film the outside? How do you choose?
The film element in this scene we considered was the use of special effects. You have the image of the earth that flattens into a map, then settings that the individual characters appear in front of and finally the tracking technology – radar, information, etc - that also overlap the settings.
How do you get this many layers
into one shot?
The other scene is where Max & Saskia are making the deal and they seem to be walking down the street but then odd things happen – streetlights, guitars flying, background changes – is this a ‘bluescreen’ effect or something else?
How is animation different to
creating special effects – are the flying guitars animation or SFX?
Which took longest the actors acting, the animation or the SFX?
