Hi,
It's great to see more rappers signing in - even the AISS all the way from
Singapore!
Moorefield have really made a great start. The answers were thorough and
showed excellent understanding. Well done!
By the way, 'Vo' is the family name. Vo Van Chau would be referred to as
'Chau', as 'Vo' applies to all the family equally.
To the Cheltenham students - I understand that the novel can be difficult
to follow because of the time shifts. It might be a useful exercise to do
what David and I did when we started writing the screenplay for the film of
O t H, which was to rearrange to events of the book into chronological
(time) order:
- the events immediately following the war (like Minh's imprisonment),
- the communist take-over (including the speakers on the roof and Chau's
death),
- the escape (including the pirates, Mai's sacrifice, the grounding of the
boat),
- the camp (Cang's gang, Kieu, the fire etc),
- life in Australia, (Toan's progress, Linh's/Miro's relationship, the
problems with the Cabramatta gang, the accident, Linh's recovery, the deal
with Hai, Tang's reaction - and death),
- the return to Vietnam.
If you understand the order of events, the book's structure allows you to
see how those events relate to each other in different ways, for example:
how the gang in the camp relates to the one in Cabra.
I look forward to reading rap-point responses from everyone.
Bye for now,
Brian.
