Dear Debbie,

I know the book can be difficult to grasp. I think it might help if you
take each of the main characters - Toan, Linh, Minh and Mai (maybe even
Phuong and Miro) and write down everything you can remember that happened
to them.  Next to each event, you might try to write down how they felt
when it happened, and why they felt that way.

The novel has many things happening, and sorting them out by seeing how the
different characters were affected is a good way to get control of them.
