Point_1 (a):
1.Vo Van Chau was Toan's grandfather. He has alread dead in the novel.
2.Ma Kim Tuyet was Toan's grandmother. She was a minor character. She lived
in Vietnam when her children escaped to Australia from Vietnam. A few years
later, she moved to Australia, too.
3.Minh and Hoa were couples. They all escaped to Australia, and lived there
from 1986. Minh was a main character and Hoa was a minor character in the
novel.
4.Toan, Son and Hoang were Minh and Hoa's children。 They escaped to
Australia with their parents, then lived in Australia. Toan was a main
character in the novel.
5.Phat and Mai were couples, too. Phat dead early in the novel. Mai suicied
when pirates on the boat took her, because the leader of the pirates raped
her. She was a minor character in the novel.
6.Phuong and Linh were Mai's daughters. They escaped to Australia with
uncle Minh. They both were main characters in the novel.
Point_1 (b):
The novel tells us not only a story about Vietnamese, but also describe the
function, values and relationships within a Vietnamese family.
1.We learn that in a Vietnamese family, the parents have the most powerful
in the family.
(i) Once, Toan, Linh and Phuong play a game with a word "Vout Biet". They
all get punish by Mai.
(ii) Minh decides to escap to Australia, so the whole family has to follow
him.
2.Vietnamese love their families and children very much.
Mai is afraid her child taking by the pirates, so she want them to take her
instead of Phuong.
Point_1 (c):
There were three gangs in the novel, Pirates, Cang's gangs and Triple Ks.
1.Toan's family met the pirates at the sea, and they took Mai away and
raped her. It made Phuong and Linh so sad. Phuong always blamed herself,
and cought her mother's clothe all the time.
2.In the camp, Phuong met Cang's gangs. Because they had the same
suffering, Phuong thought Cang was a nice guy. Once, the camp was on fire,
Cang was dead because he went back to safe Phuong.
3.The Triple Ks gang they met in Australia. Miro and Linh got a car
accident because the Triple Ks run after them by car.It made Linh can not
walk any more
