Dear Rappers
Welcome to the Papunya School Book of Country and History!
I hope that rappers have read the introductions from participating schools, however, if you have just logged on you may like to read the archives to get to know the schools and students with whom you'll be rapping.
So far, we have had wonderful introductions from Year 5 from Toongabbie West P.S., 6C from East Maitland, 5/6A from Wollondilly, and 5T, 5M, 5/6O & 6R from Blacktown West.
Before we launch into Rap Point one, remember there are rap worksheets that can be downloaded from the program and planning section to assist you in developing your class' response to each rap point. For Rap Point 1 there are 3 rap worksheets provided. Teachers please e-mail the teacher rap if you have difficulty in downloading these sheets.
For rap point 1 we are focusing on pages 1 to 9 of the text.
RAP POINT No. 1
About a hundred and fifty years ago, history suddenly began to change, when our ancestors started to see Tjulkura – white people – coming into our ngurra…. The balance of nature was broken.” (p6 and p9)
How did the Anangu and Tjulkura see and use land differently?
To assist in arriving at your class answer you may like to discuss the movement of Anangu and Tjulkura people, their use of the environment as well as the effects that these peoples had on the environment. You might consider the similarities and differences.
In your discussions you may hightlight the usage of land and the impact on the environment for the Anangu and Tjulkura people.
Post the class answer to this question to the rap once the teacher has approved the final response.
Remember the rap email address is: papunya_rap@list.schools.nsw.edu.au
I look forward to reading your class response to rap point 1.
Happy rapping
