roadsafety_rap Rap point 1

Hello rappers !!!

Last week was geat to hear from everyone about what they thought about Jeffrey. I knew you would all think he was just the cutest dog. You all seem to have enjoyed reading the book and talking about road safety as well. You came up with some good messages for everybody to think about.

Make sure you tell your family all about the important things you have learned.

Class 2/3 at Kurrajong East PS had an interesting question about rules for dogs in cars, do they need a harness and are they supposed to be tied up ?

Well, there is no law for drivers of cars about this but the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) and the police strongly recommend that all dogs are harnessed in a special pet seatbelt or placed in a safe travel cage. This is safer for both the dogs, the driver and passengers of cars in the case of an accident. If the dogs are in the back of a ute they need to be tied up.

I work with teachers and schools to help develop road safety lessons. I helped with the Jeffrey book rap and really like answering all kinds of road safety questions people have. But since I started this job, no-one has ever asked me that question. Thanks for that, because now I know the answer as well.

I bet most dogs would get used to wearing a seatbelt especially if this was going to be a safe way to travel with you. You can buy dog seatbelts from pet shops and some department stores. I know some people that use them too!!

Keep up the good work. Enjoy working on Rap point 2,
