To the Rap,
We are 9EO class from Dulwich High School. This is
what we think about what makes "The binna binna man"
an Aboriginal book.
Boori Pryor is an Aboriginal writer. The title of
the book sounds Aboriginal; the characters look
Aboriginal from the title page illustration. The
illustrations on the cover and the title page show a
necklace with Aboriginal colours which are black,
yellow and red.
There are many Aboriginal words mentioned in the
crossword we did.
The Aboriginal man on the tape has got an
Aboriginal accent eg: "fulla" and "eh"?
Anecdotes that describe incidents eg: the white
bloke who saw the binna binna man and disappeared.
These are stories about Aboriginal beliefs that
connect them together to make them feel a strong
identity. Also part of their culture, they joke
together as described in the book. For example: the Mc
Donald Joke, the "fourmile" joke and the freshwater
creek joke.
There is an Aboriginal dreamtime story in the book.
Aboriginal cultural totems, such as a frog and a
cassawary. In Aboriginal culture there is a strong
belief in the wisdom of elders. They believe old
people can teach young people something, like Popeye
Bobby. They also believe everyone is related. They
feel close to everyone.
See you next rap point.
