Dear Rappers,

Here are our ideas for rap point 1. Sorry they are late. We only meet twice a week in DEAR for twenty minutes!

Rap Point 1

What makes this an Aboriginal book?

 ·        Informality of the language- the language is written as they say it, e.g. Big Fulla=big fella, M’legs=my legs, M’face=my face, and cus=cousin. This makes the story sound like an oral story being told instead of a written one

·        Use of dialect- they use words which are traditional to their tribe, e.g. Jalbu=white women, Girragundji=frog, and yidinji= tribe name. This continues the oral tradition.

 ·        Use of Art- Dream time stories are told through the use of art. The book uses light and reflections, shadows, mirror images, and small to large pictures to complement the story.

 ·        Use of traditional story telling- the book uses the ‘tale of the Binna Binna man,’ as part of the story.

 ·        Totems- the book uses totems such as the frog in the story

 ·        The cover – sets the scene of the book, shows images of natural surroundings, uses earthy colours, shadowing to suggest mystery and earthy colours used in the necklace worn by the boy.

Happy Rapping. Talk to you next time.
