Whats up Rappers!!!
Here's our Rap Point One!
After reading the book, we discovered that The Binna
Binna Man is an Aboriginal book because it talks about
Aboriginal beliefs and culture. The book is about an
Aboriginal boy dealing with life and finding out who
he is!There are other things that tell us that the
book is Aboriginal; the Aboriginal language spoken
(migaloo,eunjee, jalbu)the photos show Aboriginal
people, the characters are Aboriginal and some have
Aboriginal names, and the way the book uses dreamtime
stories (The Binna Binna Man & spirit story)and talks
about the importance of ancestors, elders and their
ways.
Meme McDonald and Boori Monty Pryor use humour to make
the book entertaining and exciting.Examples of humour
are: when Aunty falls into the grave, then begs to
come back up, when Shandell is teasing the narrator
about Jody, and the episode at McDonalds. It is also
used because if there was no humour, then the story
would be too sad.. This is because the main event of
the book is about Sister Girl's funeral, "losing one
of our own". We also noticed that humour is used even
when there are sad moments(eg: when Aunty falls into
the grave). We figured that this was because even
during times of sadness, there is always time for
laughter.
The authors also express the meaning of the book
through the use of visual elements like print size and
font, the use of colours and tones, and the inclusion
of illustrations and photos. We noticed that the font
changes size when something dramatic happens or there
is a change of mood or pace. We thought that the
photos and illustrations in the book were used to
emphasise what was going on, show what was happening
in the book, and to entertain us( which they did).
The pages are black when something scary or exciting
is happening, and tones are used to show emotions and
mood. The print size changes when there are important
things to say (eg: p73).
