Dear fellow Rappers,
it's Blacktown Girls here with Rap point 2

~Blacktown Girls~

Rap Point 2

The advantages for not only the boy but for every person on the face of the earth to follow their cultural backgrounds/beliefs is:

·        It provides a set of rules and standards for a person to follow

·        It teaches you learn right from wrong

·        It keeps you in touch with the past

·        It has great historical value

·        It gives you a meaning in life

·        It strengthens you in times of need

·        It makes you feel as if you are a part of something. It gives you a sense of belonging

·        It gives you a standard to live up to

·        It becomes part of you – you become part of it

·        It gives you faith – something to believe in. It gives you comfort and something to hold onto through the troubles in your life

·        These beliefs may make your life harder, but in the long run it will benefit you far more than the hardships you will have to endure without them

If a person was to lose contact with their cultural beliefs many of the things which may occur could be:

     ·        There is a feeling of emptiness

·        The feeling of not belonging

·        A person may go stray or lost

·        There is less meaning to life

·        No structure in life

·        Lost of direction

·        No comfort in difficult times or situations

·        No standards to live up to

Examples from the book:

Shandell- doesn’t believe in the old ways and gets into trouble and only when she comes back to her cultural beliefs that she regains her sense of self.

Frog(girragundji) – the boy talks to the frog in his head for comfort and strength in times of need.

In the end they all turn to the wisdom of the elders and the Binna Binna man for guidance through their troubles.
