the_binna_binna_man_rap Responses from Connie

Hello to all my fellow Rappers

Response to Rap 1:

I have been reading through all of the responses from schools and it is great to see how you all have made the connection between Aboriginal people and their culture. It is great to read how important you see cultural beliefs are to Aboriginal people. Boori and Meme have done a wonderful job in presenting Aboriginal cultural beliefs in this book, which helps people to understand/appreciate Aboriginal culture.

Response to Rap 2;

When I was younger, I can remember my Nanna always telling us stories now as an adult I can appreciate why these stories were so important to my people. I am from the Wiradjuri Nation, it is one of the largest in Australia (in land size) and is the largest in NSW. By reading Binna Binna man you can come to appreciate why my people had laws and beliefs. Having laws and beliefs was intrinsic to Aboriginal way of life. Aboriginal law and beliefs is a part of our culture, it is important, it helps Nations to govern the way they live and the way they look after the land that they are a part of.

Quite often you may hear Aboriginal people talking about respect, that children of today don't have the respect. Respect is all about doing the right thing, no only to your Elders but to the universe around you to the land that you belong. Respect is about believing and, in the old ways, in trusting the Elders to lead you.

All of the responses that I have read are so interesting, it is great as an Aboriginal woman to read your responses and it is great to share ideas about our culture.
