the_binna_binna_man_rap From Meme for St Mary's

St Mary's had some great questions too.

1) What encouraged you to write The Binna Binna Man.
This is a true story. I was feeling a bit hopeless about a novel I was writing that was hard to get right. I felt like giving up writing, true. I went to be and was daydreaming and I heard a very powerful voice telling me about the boy in My Girragundji (the book Boori and I wrote before Binna Binna Man) From the time I went to sleep to waking in the morning, the story kept coming back. Not only for the Binna Binna Man book but also the outline for the next one we are only just writing now - Njunjul the Sun. When I told Boori about the voice and the story, he said great, lets write those two books. The voice was a fully grown male voice. What do you make of that!!

2) What was your inspiration for an Aboriginal book?
There's a simple answer to this. Boori, my partner, and his nieces and nephews.

3) How do you like to spend your spare time?
Dreaming, eating good food someone else has cooked, going to movies, lying down on a beautiful piece of earth in a beautiful place...of which there are many all over Australia and particularly in our backyard. Sometimes in my spare time I go back to writing. It's the thing I love to do the most.
Boori loves playing basketball.

Another big thank you for your questions.

With love
