therabbits04_rap rap point 1

The cover positions the responder to visualise it is going to be a fairy tale. It also causes the responder to think there may be a conflict because of the two groups of storm clouds headed towards each other. The rabbits and ship in the foreground are huge and overpowering but the numbats are very small. This represents British dominance. The rabbits and boat are also very abstract. This could be the perspective of the aboriginals, who do not see them as real.
The black above the ship represents the darkness and rage the British bring. As the ship moves the light reappears. This may mean that as long as the rabbits/British are there, there will be anguish. The water is also black. It makes the boat appear poisonous so that, wherever it travels, it pollutes and destroys. The colour of the rabbits clothing is like an army uniform and the red shines out over the rest of the colours. The red represents strength, power and dominance similar to the way the British saw themselves.
The blurb is very eye catching. The red background and the way you have to turn the book to read it makes it different and interesting. It is represented as an old royal carpet.
Overall this cover makes you intrigued and want to read the book. The cover represents the book well because you know a little bit of what it will be about. It looks simple at first glance but it has a deep dark secret, which you can only find out if you read the story.
