Hi this is our response to the cover of The Rabbits.
The cover of the Rabbits suggests something dark, powerful and mysterious. The colours resemble a dark, evil power protruding from the body of the ship.
The image of the rabbits is sharp, pointy and sophisicated. The readers' eyes are mostly drawn to the large yellow ship which dominates the cover. On the side are the natives who look defenceless ,small and powerless.
The most prominant object in the scene would be the large ship and your eye is then drawn to the image of the diciplined rabbits.
In the Title, the Rabbits , both words have the T representing a cross which projects a feeling of death and cemeteries. The flags have a similar design to the Union Jack which makes you think of the First Fleet - with the rabbits being the British and the small defencelee natives - the aboriginals.
When you look at the font ,it is strangely - white on black .Usually print is black on white - so unknowingly it makes you uncomfortable.
The artist has gone to great lengths to position these images on the cover to suggest that inside the book will be a scary tale full of menace.
