therabbits04_rap Response to Rap Point 1

Thanks for all the emails, 9EN1 at Hay are really enjoying reading everyone's opinions and thoughts on The Rabbits.

Here are our combined group's responses to Rap Point one.

The cover of The Rabbits positions the reader in the years of European settlement of Australia. It looks like they have sailed a long way and have found some land to explore. The Rabbits look like pirates; the vivid dark tones make them look intimidating. The clouds and sky make it appear a bad thing has arrived. It makes us feel like it is going to be something about war. It looks a little like something you may picture in a dream. We may expect the book to be about an exploration, an invasion and a war. It may be about the invasion and colonisation of a country. From the cover's illustrations you can guess it could be about the conflict that arrises from the invasion and the response of the indigenous population. There are lots of symbols in the illustrations to link it to the invasion/colonisation of Australia and the issues surrounding that.
