therabbits04_rap Rap .2 Macrappers Group 2.

Hey all, we are group 2 of the Macrappers. This is our response to Rap .2.

“The rabbits came many grandparents ago”

Opening page.

White words on black background grab attention. The blue is the most dominant colour on the two pages suggesting the clear and calm sky. The red, black, brown, gold and orange make it look dry and are suggestive of the Aboriginal people and the Dreamtime. The white birds stand out showing mystical behaviour.

The images are thought provoking, as the snakes could have an innocent meaning but then again could have sexual references. The cave drawings are of the indigenous people curled up into the foetal position, which could mean they are searching for protection and security. The chimney is the first sign of something approaching over the horizon bringing filth and destruction. The drawings are very detailed.

The eyes of the snake are looking at the chimney in the distance.  Also, the birds are flying away from one point on the horizon.

The blue takes up one third of the double page and represents the purity of the land before the invasion, but it could also be there to make the chimney stand out – which wouldn’t be as noticeable with a different coloured background. Words are the first thing you see, they stand out because of the colour of the cave behind them. Then the rocks as they are red and next to the words meaning you follow the general reading rule of left to right. The lizards draw your attention due to their size and the blue eye. The blue sky could represent a tranquil and peaceful place. The pale landscape is covered in aboriginal symbols that aren’t noticeable at first glance. And then you finally notice the chimney, which shows technology, evolution and pollution.

The drawings look like natives. Cave drawings are symbolic of aboriginal culture. Colours are symbolic of the Australian landscape and some of the colours used in the aboriginal way of life before the Europeans. Snakes could either represent betrayal or bringer of life. Black chimney suggests change -> technology.

The words suggest time is measured by the passing of generations. They also suggest the beginning of the story, its like different wording for ‘once upon a time’. The ‘ago’ and ‘grandparents’ suggest tradition.
