Hey,
We have chosen, as our double page, "they stole our children."
We as 9.1 English students at T.H.S feel that the page represents the rivalry between the two races. The rabbits (British Sailors) are dressed in a very formal manor which represents the governmental power and the superiority the rabbits feel they have over the aboriginals.
The documents which the rabbits are holding have a unique stamp, which represents an insignia such as the coat of arms.
The numbats in the box kites is a illustration of when the aboriginal children were taken away from their parents. The white ground could symbolise white dominance or that the numbats have surrendered their children. the way the white document with children written on it and the way it's flying away could represent the children being detached from their families and the attempted removal of the black race.
The blood dripping from the quill helps emphasise the blood shed and pain caused by the white race toward the aboriginals.
The rabbits have red eyes and this symbolises the evil in the authority of the British government
The stamp on the document is used regularly throughout the book and has the gun and quill on it to show that they are not afraid to apply force to get the approval.
