therabbits04_rap book rap 2 - glen innes high:-)

Book Rap 2:
The page we chose has large pictures of sheep and cows. It stands out because it's colourful and imaginative. It shows the damage the rabbits - symbols of European settlement do to the land with their introduced animals and the pollution they cause. The double page that we all decided on caught our attention because it is so different to the rest of the book. It uses brighter colours rather then sad colours used on the other pages.

The colours communicate the use of the land for agricultural purposes by the rabbits. There's an unnatural bright green used to show irrigation and fertilizers being used to change the land for their advantage. The picture shows you how the rabbits or Europeans are going to use the parts of the animals to produce products. For example, the pattern on the cows shows how we divide the meat into sections, by diving this it emphasizes the way that white people exploit the animals. ie. cattle are only grown for meat and sheep for wool and meat.

On these pages all the animals have the appearance of being genetically engineered. The animals appear that way because they only look 2 dimensional or flat. They all have weird characteristics about them, for instance, the cows look like they are on wheels and the sheep have six legs and killer teeth that leave a trail of dirt behind them.

There are train tracks that are used for carting produce from one place to another. The steam engine (or variation of one) is pumping out lots of pollution similar to the chimneys in the background.

The illistrator has used contrast and juxtaposition on this page. The clip on is showing that the sheep have drank all the water and that native animals, such as the fish, are dying because of lack of water. The little picture shows the rabbits giving the natives or the Europeans giving the Aboriginals food or alcohol and it has made them sick.

On the clip the colours are bland, barron and depressing suggesting the natives are upset about their land being destroyed and taken over.
