Hi, we are Sam and Chris from year 10 from Parramatta High School. Heres our response to the rap point 2.
The impact of scene 16 was one where we felt there was a sense of acceptance when Koro was sitting beside Pai with the whale tooth around her neck on the boat chanting which was filmed very close. This section of the movie indicated Koro’s acceptance of Pai as the new leader. The close up of Hemmi showed a sense of pride when he saw his father performing the haka relating to his love of his cultural identity.
This scene also shows the dancing performances by the community and men and women both celebrate the new leader which shows the equality between the men and women in the community. The pushing of the canoe into the water shows that the tribe are co-operating with one another and pushing it forwards shows the tribe that they’re advancing into the future and their direction with the new leader (Pai) still exists.
