Thanks for the email.
The boat launching scene is very touching and is a good way to finish the
movie.
The boat launched was the boat her father started making her but never
completed a place where she frequently went when life was difficult. The
completion of the boat symbolises how Paikea’s life is now in a way more
complete. Paikea is on the boat with all the people she loves and her
father is rowing, while her grandmother is on the beach with the rest of
the town doing the haka, a traditional dance. Paikea sits very close to
Koro, showing his love and final acceptance of her.

The particular scene of this film is shot at close range giving the
feeling of love and passion. It is in the day giving lots of light and
making the scene bright and full of happiness. Paikea and Koro are at the
front of the boat leading the way. All the people are in traditional
costume and are moving together leaving you with a sense fulfilment.
