Hey .. my name is Sylvia. I go to parramatta high school and im in yr 10 ..
The thing that had the most impact on me in scene 16 was when everyone was accepted. I could see this when the sister in law pats Anna’s and Pourangi’s baby and also when Pai has the whale tooth around her neck, which means everyone in the community has accepted her as their new community leader.
Koro’s arms were around her. It showed great happiness and he looked very proud. Hemi’s father also found where he truly belongs. He has joined the community and hemi was really happy to have him back again.
In this scene there was various film techniques used. There was a close up on the whale tooth around Pai’s neck. And also on Koro’s face looking proud. There was also a close up on Anna’s stomach which may represent that the next chief might be Anna’s baby. When the community were dancing Hemis father was there dancing with them. It had a close up shot on his face and straight away showed Hemi’s face looking really happy and proud of this father.
From this scene with Anna, Flowers and the sister-in-law it really shows acceptance because although she was German, and marrying a German was not part of the culture and tradition, Anna was made to feel part of the community.
They still accepted her and it made Koro think that you have to be opened to new things and keeping the tradition and culture is not worth by hurting his own family.
