whalerider05_rap Positioning, Whale rider

In the movie Whale rider, we follow the girl Paikea through her journey from
birth to pre-adolescence, where she has to confront her family, her culture,
and its traditions. Though her grandfather resents her for not being the
grandson he needs to make a new cheif for his community.
Paikea is subjected to the injustice of her grandfathers' deeply-enthrenched
partiarchial prejudice. He believes that only a male can carry on his
family’s legacy.

We see him as a dominating presence in the start of the film, but as he
experiences emotional aterations, he is humbled. By the end of the film he
has learnt to accept his granddaughter as the rightful leader of his tribe.
We follow Paikea through an emotional journey and we are postioned to
experience certain emotions. We are positioned to feel sympathy and
compassion for her because of the rejection and disappointment she endures.
Her rebellion agaist her grandfather is justified because she believes that
she can lead her people.

So yeah, have a great day. hey bush
