How do you decide who you want to work with?
This should be easy but it often isn't. If I
don't know someone's work, I always ask to see the videos of films they have
made (this is why show reels are important). And I ask their producers if they were
good workers. Ultimately, it is important for the crew to all get on well
together so filmmakers always look for talented crew members with very good
collaborative skills.
Has being a woman helped or hindered you in this
industry?
This is hard to tell. Sometimes I think
women have to be twice as good as men in order to get a job – which seems
unfair. I don't have any children so I suspect I've been lucky in being sent
overseas a lot to make films. I do know, however, that there are far, far fewer
women filmmakers than men. What was the last film you saw made by a
woman?
Thank you!
And thank you – I really enjoyed your
questions. I hope my answers are helpful.
Best wishes,
Jane
