Dear Rappers,
We believe that families can be made up of many
different types of groups. You can have one parent families, two parent
families, extended families, adopted families, groups of close friends.
We believe that a strong family unit is one where all of its members
share a common interest.
Family members can show interest in each other by laughing, talking,
showing compassion, kindness, love, respect, friendship, care. They can
also show interest by being helpful and sympathetic.
A healthy family finds a balance between doing things together and
doing things alone. Doing things always by yourself, weakens the sense
of being a family. Spending quality time with family members promotes
unity and develops trust between members.
Strong families recognise differences in individuals and allow each
member to share the spotlight. Each family member has different
abilities, hobbies and personalities. Therefore if we allow every member
the chance to shine and listen to their achievements, we can become a
stronger family. An example of this was: at times, Dusting became proud
of the activities he was doing with his aunt, joined in and learned more
about different cultures.
Families can watch TV together, go on holidays, eat together,
participate in outdoor activities, cook, draw and play games. Dusting
family appeared to be closely tied because of their common love for
having fun with each other (like when the brothers played basketball in
the family hall way), sharing adventures (like Aunt Ivy did with
Dusting), and just enjoy each other's company (like Dusting's Mum
and Dad dancing in the kitchen). Dusting's family appears to share
many interests and therefore display a close family connection.
Roger is the common interest his parents share. Even though
communication happens in Roger's family, they have forgotten how to
communicate with respect and kindness. They have also forgotten to find
out things about each other and share common interests amongst each of
them. All Roger longs for, is for his parents to show that they have an
interest in him too.
Til next time,
