We have just started to look at the various film techniques used in the series "Worst Best Friends". We decided to put the techniques into categories to make it easier for us to identify them. These categories are -
lighting
costumes
camera angles
music
1 LIGHTING
4B identified that in some scenes the use of light and dark have an impact on the mood of the storyline. This can be seen in Rogers house, which due to the parents arguing and inability to communicate, is often dark and poorly lit. This creates an uncomfortable and tense mood which reflects how Roger may be feeling.
2 COSTUMES
The clothes the
characters wear helps develop their personalities as well as identifying their health, wealth and status. This can be seen in the shabby costume used to represent Dusting which is often too small and dirty. It demonstrates that Dusting may come from a different economic background than his friends.
By dressing the bully Eddie in a leather jacket it makes him appear tough, and Millicent's clean fancy clothes make her character seem perfect and well off.
3 CAMERA ANGLES
The main camera angle 4B could identify was used in episode 5. When showing Eddie the camera would pan from his feet up to his head which made him appear bigger than he may have really been. This was effective as it made him look and feel like a bully.

MUSIC
The Mexican stand off theme which plays through episode 5 really makes the scenes with the bully come to life. 4B recognised the music from old Hollywood westerns and so this made them think of the duel between the goodie and the baddie. 4B felt this was an effective tool in setting the mood. It also added humour to the episode.
Having only just started exploring film techniques 4B was able to cleaverly identify several methods used by film makers to change mood, explore characters, set the scene or provide humour and sadness throughout the series. Over the holidays 4B hope to think more on this topic and are eager to explore the questions in wrap up 2.
