EMERGENCY CARE/RESPONSE PLANThis is a section of the individual health care plan relating to the management of an emergency for an individual student diagnosed as being at specific risk.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE FOR A STUDENT DIAGNOSED AS BEING AT RISKIn terms of planning for a student who needs help with health issues at school, an emergency can be described as a situation where, if a prescribed medication or health care procedure is not administered immediately, the student could suffer death or serious illness or injury.

INDIVIDUAL HEALTH CARE PLANAn individual health care plan formalises the plan of support for students with more complex health care needs.

The principal will initiate the development of such a plan in particular circumstances.

PANCREATIC ENZYMESStudents who have cystic fibrosis require pancreatic enzyme supplements (capsules) to assist their digestion. 

These enzymes are always eaten with food and will usually need to be carried by the student in their lunch box or school bag.

PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONPrescribed medication is medication that has been prescribed for an individual by a doctor or dentist.

SCHOOL SUPPORTSchool support refers to the range of things that schools do to help students with health needs.

STUDENTS WITH COMPLEX NEEDSSome students have medical conditions and/or disabilities which either place them at high risk of an emergency at school, or which require the co-ordinated involvement of a range of people at school.
