Student Representative Councils (SRCs)

What is an SRC?

An SRC is a group of students in a school elected by their fellow students.

SRC members represent all students in the school and organise ways for students to participate in school life.

The Charter for SRCs explains how an effective SRC works. It aims to help schools build strong SRCs.

The NSW SRC is the peak student leadership group which represents secondary students from across the state.

Inter-school and Regional SRCs

Most schools with SRCs also participate in inter-school and regional SRC activities.  An inter-school SRC builds connections between schools through student leadership forums and events.

SRC students from a school can be elected to an inter-school SRC group or regional SRC. Inter-school SRCs can:

  • help to improve school SRCs
  • improve communication between schools
  • deal with issues that affect the local community
  • provide leadership training.
